Sometimes bad things happen to good dental practices

SWAM-Month-Year-StackedIt doesn’t matter how well you work together or how smart or how skilled we are…sometimes bad things happen in the delivery of our health care to patients.

As part of Safe Work Australia Month we are recommending staff and dental teams look at two of our CPD/training exercises:

  2. Team Talk: Using TCA (TrichloroAcetic Acid) in the dental clinic No. 46

Being prepared for the unexpected is part of quality and safety.

Dental practice accreditation audits and checklist

Do you know that if you ask doctors in hospitals whether they wash their hands or not between patients then 100% naturally say they do, yet when they are independently audited then only 40 -60% do wash their hands as required.
That to me is the difference between an audit and a checklist. A checklist is a great way of making sure the structural parts of policies are in place – equipment; facilities etc…but for improvement we often need some independent auditor.
